A/N: Written for lady_aenea for the Fund-Raising for Typhoon Haiyan Victims Project.

Tetsuya cringes every time he thinks of his confession, Maya is with Sayuri, he's pretty sure of it. They don't seem to spend any time together outside of school and in school they rarely spend any time alone but Maya has never denied being in a relationship with her. In truth, he's never confirmed it either, but like himself, Maya is a man of few words and that's what makes this so difficult for Tetsuya, if it were anyone else he'd already know by now whether or not his feelings were reciprocated.

It's been three days since he said it. It came out of nowhere, sure he knew he had a crush on Maya but he'd never had any intention of telling him. They'd been in the middle of a fight, when Maya had been pushed into him and they'd toppled to the floor together, Maya on top of him. Even despite banging his head pretty hard, Tetsuya been nothing but pleased that the first thing he'd seen once his eyes could focus again was Maya's beautiful eyes, staring at him, wide and concerned. 'I'm OK.' was what he'd meant to say, but what came out instead was “I love you.”

Time seemed to freeze, just Maya's eyes fixed on his, and in true movie fashion, Tetsuya had leaned up to press their lips together. Also in true movie fashion, Maya had been pulled off of him only moments before their lips met and thrust back into battle. The few seconds it took for Tetsuya to pull himself back to reality were all that was needed for a member of the rival gang to get the upper hand and before he could stop it there was a fist flying straight to his face, and then just black. By the time he'd woken up the fight was over and Maya was nowhere to be seen.

At school the next day, Maya had acted the same as always around him, neither cold nor overly friendly, and Tetsuya was starting to worry that he wouldn't get any kind of answer at all. He hadn't meant to tell Maya about his feelings, but since he had, he at least wanted to know Maya's reaction to them.

He can't even say when it was that his feelings for Maya changed. When Fumie was around he never had eyes for anyone but her, but the more he looks at Maya the more he realises that Maya is just as beautiful, if not more so. The shape of his face is different but they have the same milky white skin that looks like it would feel like silk. They both have expressive eyes, Fumie's a little more shiny maybe, but Maya's are definitely bigger and wider, far prettier than an any girls.

He's staring at them again when Maya suddenly looks in his direction and by the time his heart starts beating again he knows it's far too late to pretend he wasn't looking. Awkwardly, Maya offers him a small smile and Tetsuya feels like there are butterflies in his stomach when he tries to smile back.

He's smoother than this, even around Fumie he managed to keep his cool, he's Asada fucking Tetsuya, he doesn't let girls affect him like that, only Maya's not a girl, and inside he cringes at the punch he'd receive if Maya ever found out he was even trying to make that comparison.

“Maya...can we talk?” he asks, he has to, when another three days pass and Maya has given no indication that he thinks of Tetsuya any differently, or at all really.

“What about?” Maya asks in return, his tone somewhere between curious and concerned.

Tetsuya lets out a breath and grabs him by the wrist, ignoring the way his stomach dips at the contact, and he drags him along the hallway to an empty classroom. “I want to talk about what happened the other day...”

Now Maya does look confused. “What happened?”

“What I said...” Tetsuya clarifies and Maya's eyes widen a little as he nods.

“Ah, that.”

“Yes, that.” he confirms but Maya doesn't look as though he's going to continue any further with the conversation. “So...”

“So?” Maya asks. “You were the one that dragged me out here...”

For a moment he's caught off guard, it's true that he said he wanted to talk, but he was thinking more along the lines of getting Maya to talk. “I just...I didn't mean to say it, but...still, I'd like to know what you're thinking...”

“If you didn't mean it, then why does it matter?” Maya asks straightly.

He shakes his head “No, I didn't...I meant it...I do, I just...I wasn't going to...” he stops and shakes his head again before murmuring to himself. “Get it together.”

Maya laughs a little, and Tetsuya's heart freezes, Maya's smile is so rare. He's beautiful, his smile amazing and Tetsuya wants him to do it more, he wants to be the reason he does it. “What?” Maya asks, the smile slipping off of his face again and Tetsuya snaps back to reality.

“I like you...” he confesses. “I like you a lot...I think about you all...”

“I thought you liked Fumie-san?” Maya cuts him off, catching Tetsuya by surprise.

“Well...yeah, I did...but...” It's not as though he doesn't care about her any more, the stacks of letters he keeps in his desk drawer are proof enough of that but their relationship over the past few months has developed into more of a friendship.

“But you don't any more?”

“I...no, I don't think so, not in the same way that I like you...” he answers honestly.

“And in what way do you like me?” Maya pushes, his cheeks tinting a faint pink at his own question.

That one makes him think, he knows that he has to answer carefully, he wants Maya to understand the extent of his feelings without making the other uncomfortable, but he doesn't know how to explain it. He opens his mouth to try but then the door behind them opens and Tatsuya comes crashing through.

“What's going on?” Tatsuya asks confused.

Tetsuya looks back at Maya for a moment and then at Tatsuya, ready to out himself but Maya speaks up before he gets chance “It's nothing.” and with his hands pushed firmly into his pockets he brushes past both Tetsuya and Tatsuya, out of the door.

In the two weeks that follow, Maya avoids being alone with Tetsuya at all costs, he sticks to Satoshi's side like glue when he has the chance, and wanders over to Sayuri when he doesn't. It worries Tetsuya a little, not only that his feelings for Maya are pushing the other away, but also that he's pushing him towards Sayuri.

Other than that things remain the same between them, the dynamic of the group is still there, they still stick up for each other and watch each other's backs, and when some guys from another district invade their school they still put up a fight no matter how out-numbered they are.

When Tetsuya looks around, he and Maya are cut off from the group, down a separate hallway, seven of their rivals on their heels. Any other time Tetsuya knows they could take them, but they've been fighting for half an hour already, his own ribs are aching and he can see Maya is avoiding putting his full weight on his left foot, like this they're doomed.

“In here.” Tetsuya shouts, only seconds before grabbing Maya's arm and tugging him into a classroom, then he sets about pushing desks and lockers against the door.

“What are you doing?” Maya asks angrily, pulling a desk back out of the way. “We can take them.”

“Don't be stupid.” Tetsuya shouts back, pushing him out of the way and Maya retaliates by pushing back at him, he staggers back a few steps and then catches his balance before flying back at Maya, his instincts still working in fight mode and the adrenaline fuels him push Maya again. “What's your problem? You don't want to be alone with me badly enough that you'd rather be beaten to a pulp?”

Maya doesn't answer, he just stares at him coldly and it's all the confirmation Tetsuya needs. It hurts, the pain adding to the anger and the adrenaline and without thinking it through he lashes out and punches Maya.

Maya flinches, his gaze hardening, and that does nothing to alleviate Tetsuya's feelings, it's getting too much, the hurt and rejection of Maya's avoidance, his anger at himself for letting it bother him so much, for caring so much what Maya thinks of him. He lashes out again, punching Maya in the face again and when he still doesn't react he grabs him by the shoulders and pushes him back into the wall, leaning in threateningly.

“Come on then, I thought you wanted to fight?” he pulls Maya away from the wall and pushes him back again, shaking him, “If you hate me that much then just...” his words are cut of with a gasp when Maya pushes back, freeing his arms from Tetsuya's grip and he reverses their positions, pinning Tetsuya to the wall before crashing their mouths together. For a split second he's frozen, dazed, but then his mind catches up with his hormones and he's kissing back as hard as he's getting.

He's imagined their first kiss a hundred times over but in none of those fantasies is it anything like this, it's never so carnal, so demanding, so fucking hot. His hands knot into the back of Maya's blazer, pulling him closer and Maya almost growls against his lips before nipping hard and pushing himself away.

He looks angry as he wipes his mouth with his sleeve, panting hard. He looks beautiful, he looks fierce and Tetsuya knows why it was he fell in love with Maya in the first place.

He rushes forwards at Maya but Maya grabs hold of him first, spinning him round and pushing him backwards. Tetsuya struggles to keep his balance but the sheer force of the push has him toppling backwards onto the floor and then Maya is on top of him, straddling his hips and his hands go straight for Tetsuya's collar. “Say it again.” Maya hisses. Tetsuya is confused as Maya leans down and kisses him hard and quick before pulling back to look at him again, for the first time, uncertainty shining in his eyes. “Tell me again.”

“I love you.” he chokes through pants. “Maya, I love you.” He can feel it when Maya's body relaxes on top of him, his fists unclenching from Tetsya's shirt and falling to rest on his chest while his shoulders relax, he can feel the tension leave his legs and they give out under him, making him fall the rest of the way to sit on Tetsuya's lap.

It reminds Tetsuya's how excited he is, how Maya's rough kisses had aroused him and Maya must feel it too, pressing up against him. “Maya” he gasps, his hips involuntarily bucking up. “Maya I love you, I want you.”

Maya sighs softly and lets his head roll back as his hands clench into the front of Tetsuya's shirt again, his hips starting to roll slowly.

Tetsuya groans, but it's not enough, he wants to feel more. He lets his own hands move up to clutch Maya's thighs as he grinds up in time with Maya's hips.

Their rhythm gets faster and faster until Maya falls forwards and attaches their mouth together again, it changes the angle of their hips and Tetsuya groans as something hard presses against his erection, rubbing against it just right.

It's like ecstasy, Maya all around him, kissing him, tasting him, feeling him hard against him. Tetsuya moans louder, throwing his head back and out of their kiss but Maya's mouth just drops to his neck and he growls against it before knotting one hand into Tetsuya's hair and pulling his head back up to kiss him again.

A whole new wave of arousal flares up inside Tetsuya, he can't get enough of the way Maya manhandles him, how he kisses him rough and hard, taking what he wants and his own hips buck harder against Maya's.

His hands are on Maya's back, pulling at his blazer again, clawing at it in an attempt to alleviate the feelings building up inside him, pooling in his groin but spreading, burning every single nerve and he continues to cry out, Maya drinking down every one of his noises eagerly.

He tries to warn Maya, he can feel it coming and he tries to pull his mouth away but Maya is insistent, so possessive and controlling and it's that that inevitably pushes Tetsuya over the edge. His whole body seems to stiffen and jerk, and Maya doesn't stop, grinding harder, rubbing him through it as he all but screams against Maya's mouth.

Only when he falls limp, too boneless to even lift his head and kiss back, does Maya release his mouth. He continues to thrust against him though, shifting his hips a little so that it's not uncomfortable for Tetsuya, and after a few timeless moments of that Maya speaks. “Tetsuya.” he gasps, “I love you too.” then his eyes flutter shut as his body starts to jerk in orgasm.

He couldn't say how long they lay there, Maya's head resting against his shoulder as he reaches up to stroke a hand gently through his hair.

“I was scared.” Maya says eventually. “When you confessed to me...I'd liked you for so long already and the thought that you liked me back was terrifying.”

“Why?” Tetsuya asks quietly.

“Because I didn't want to admit it.” he answers just as quietly, and then a long moment of silence stretches out. “I didn't want to be like this.”

He thinks he gets it. “You didn't want to be with a boy?” he asks, and Maya nods against his chest. “It doesn't make you a girl just because you like boys...”. He rolls them over enough that he can straddle Maya's hips and look down at him. There's some gallant speech right there on the tip of his tongue, words about being true to yourself, or maybe it was something about friendship...just looking at Maya chases it away, his beauty, the intensity that always resides just under the collected cool of those eyes, it takes his breath away. “I love you.” he says instead “Please go out with me?”

The scene in the classroom was really hot, though I couldn't help snickering a bit when I remembered they were just hiding there, still in the middle of a fight. Like, imagine if the enemy guys had found them there like that. 8D Or if their own friends had beaten the others and then started to look for Tetsuya and Maya... XD; ♥

I kinda ship him with Jesse but only in Bakaleya characters :S Other than that he just doesn't really seem shippable to me :( saying that though, I couldn't imagine shipping Shintaro with anyone until I read it and then tried wriing it. I've only ever read Yugo fic in the bakaleyaverse though, so maybe if I found more fic of him I'd be able to see it more.

I love how Tetsuya's such a mess where Maya's concerned, and how he's a little love sick and pleased to see Maya's face even though they're in the middle of a fight XD

and the classroom part was hot and yeah, that's how delinquent boys would deal with feelings so...but I was a little nervous if the enemy suddenly breaks in and catches them in the middle of that or something :o though if it's Tatsuya, it's probably nothing since that boy's clueless XD

and awwww Maya :o it's okay to accept Tetsuya's feelings, especially if you feel the same :)

Thank you! I never really thought of these characters as a pairing until it was suggested to me, but I have to say I love Hokku and Taiga together! It was really fun trying to write them from their characters point of view though!

As for recommendations, it depends on if you're looking for more Tetsuya x Maya fics or just Hokku x Taiga in general? I haven't come across any other Tetsuya x Maya fics yet (though there are a few from the Bakaleyaverse around with other pairings), there's not really that much HokkuTai that I've found either but if you are interested I'm sure I could find one or two to recommend to you!

This is fantastic. I absolutely LOVE Bakaleya fic, and this one was no exception. You wrote the characters perfectly, realistically portraying the way they would react to the situations they found themselves in, and moving the story forward in a way that didn't forfeit personality. The words you used to describe both boys were beautiful, especially Maya, as you wrote him from Tetsuya's perspective.

You addressed the the obstacles in the way of the relationship between Tetsuya and Maya perfectly. Tetsuya's careful consideration of his feelings for Maya versus his old feelings for Fumie a lovely internal monologue, the way he was so cautious when speaking with Maya in the empty classroom, inexperienced in confessing his love and so conscious of Maya's feelings was precious. And then Maya's confession at the end that he "didn't want to be like this" was so heartbreaking and so spot on considering his history that it made my heart hurt a bit for him.

And despite the rather mushy/lovey-dovey concept of a confession, you manage to keep in mind that these characters are not necessarily romantics. The fight scenes, although brief, reinforce their status as delinquents, and the sudden make-out/dry humping in the classroom is so carnal and hormonal that it reminds the reader that they are teenage boys, not delicate and not all that innocent in their wants and desires. But there is just the right amount of emotion involved,the serious words of love putting meaning to their actions, and as it is a culmination of the scenes following Tetsuya's off the cuff confession and Maya's avoidance of him it is somehow sweet. Also, The fact that Maya started it was important in showing that he too wants the relationship, making them more equal, not putting him into a feminine role, something that would contradict his character in a negative way. Kudos!

Then, at the very end they're finally being completely honest, leaning on each other both literally and metaphorically, and it is the perfect ending, sweet and caring, and it cements the concept of the relationship between the two of them. It shows how they would be able to support each other and trust in each other, helping each other to grow. It gave them a future as a couple. And then the last sentence, when Tetsuya asks Maya to go out with him was really cute. Tetusya wanting to date properly and officially a really nice touch at the end.

So...yeah, sorry for the super long comment. I don't comment on fics often, but I wanted to let you know that I really liked yours. I've never read any of your fics before this one, but I'll definitely be checking them out. Thank you for sharing this, I know I am very glad I stumbled upon it.

I'm glad you found them to be true to their characters, it was quite a challenge to try and move things along while keeping in important things that make the characters who they are so it made me really happy that you noticed all of the little details like that.

It took me far longer than it should have to get this written considering how short it is, but I have a tendancy to overthink things and I can't stand to read through my own work and think things like 'But would he really do that?' so it really does make me incredibly happy to know that the people reading this also pay attention to the details and think them through too, it makes me feel like it was worth all the time and the re-writes if people will notice them. And it made me especially happy that you took the time to write about everything in your comment!
